One curved piece of ash does almost all the work here. The backrest is cut precisely at both ends: one half carries on to become the armrest and the front leg, the other half turns down into the back leg. That is the whole chair, more or less, which is why there is so little jointing to look at. It won the 2025 China Gold Idea Design Award, and you can see the argument for it from the side. The seat is wrapped leather, stitched, sitting low inside the frame. We would have taken the walnut if it existed in this shape. It doesn't, and the black-stained ash is the better chair anyway: the stain sinks into the open grain instead of covering it, so the wood still reads as wood in a room where everything else is pale.
