The Sol Sanctuary Table Lamp is an ode to French architectural theorist Etienne-Louis Boullée's monument to Newton. A spiritual shrine that turns out was impossible to build. Shaw Liu finds inspiration in this unrealised architecture, particularly its spherical body, which was intended to mimic the effects and day and night. About the artisan

The Sanctuary light series is Shaw Liu’s first collection since opening her studio. She fondly remembers working in her studios late at night, looking out in awe of the bright moon in the sky and feeling overcome with gratitude. She too wants to leave behind a golden halo to light up the world.

THESHAW

This art deco light features a long, mirrored body, an exploration of the tangible and intangible. Reflections are phantom-like and can be inconsistent. Almost hallucinogenic, Sanctuary's hollow dome symbolises the eternal spirit of Newton, whilst its light is akin to a glowing moon. Best placed as a table lamp, its interior becomes aglow with the orb sat within it. This piece is an evolution of Sanctuary Illusion, which features a projecting light bulb.

Reminiscent of light bollards, crafted in hand-polished stainless steel. It is made to be paired with an expertly crafted hand-blown opaline sphere bulb which radiates like the rising sun.

Striking and truly distinctive, it belongs in the company of equally remarkable objects, including the homes of the audacious, and as lighting for art studios. Shaw Liu crafted this monument as she believes everyone deserves to have a cenotaph within their midst. A monument dedicated to the purest part of one's soul, which can continue to live on.
