About the artisan

The Sanctuary light series is Shaw Liu’s first collection since opening her studio. She fondly remembers working in her studios late at night, looking out in awe of the bright moon in the sky and feeling overcome with gratitude. She too wants to leave behind a golden halo to light up the world.

THESHAW

Shaw Liu crafted this beacon of light to commemorate the time spent at her grandparents' home. On one particular evening, through a window, her eyes locked with a powerful sunset that seemed to split the earth in half. The sky flooded red, whilst the outstretched farmland became bathed in blue.

This is her touchstone to that memory, a way for her to revisit the past and relive the best part of her childhood. Ocean Flame is that peaceful moment immortalised in stainless steel and optical glass. She encourages those who witness it to anchor a fond memory of their own.

Apt in setting the mood within a dim room. Ocean Flame embodies hot and cold, fear and calm, yin and yang. It is the epitome of balance, like revisiting a joyful memory that now elicits sadness. It is a performance that illustrates how one emotion cannot exist without the other.

With that balance, it lends itself effortlessly to a home that craves equilibrium. A tool to help meditate or to do yoga alongside. Equally apt for a spritely cocktail evening or movie night. With colour, comes great energy.
