As half Indian and half German, I've always had the ability to walk between two worlds. That's particularly useful as a designer who draws from her own heritage, striving to find the balance between tradition and modernity. It was my mother who first taught me the value of handmade items, and seeing first-hand my carpenters at work, knowing the detail and care that is transferred into every piece of furniture, just solidified that feeling for me.
My homeware brand, This & That, aims to capture the spirit of old India, often utilising materials like reclaimed teak and weaving in contemporary accents for a fresh new look. Nature plays a big part in my work, not only because I strive to be more sustainable but through little homages to nature, celebrating it in all its textures, colours, patterns, and movements. Nature is a bountiful beauty. The more we come to appreciate that, the more we can be at peace with ourselves.

Working with reclaimed wood and salvaged materials, Ariane’s homeware has a unique character that cannot be replicated. Using teak that has had time to age and weather, it features a distinctive patina and texture, adding a touch of history and warmth to any space.
Sometimes objects live in our workshop for years, finding their way into our collection only when an idea worthy of it strikes.
